Group Show „DE-HEIMATIZE IT!” with Viron Erol Vert

26.10.2019 - 17.11.2019

Opening: Saturday, October 26th, 2019, 5:30 pm

4. Berliner Herbstsalon, Berlin

The term »Heimat« is currently being projected in capital letters on every wall of the republic. But it is not being used in a sense of empathy and solidarity with the people who have had to flee their  »Heimat«.  On the contrary,  »Heimat« is being used by right-wing and extreme right forces to exclude the dispossessed and disenfranchised.

Under the title DE-HEIMATIZE IT!, the 4. Berliner Herbstsalon, taking place  from 26 October to 17 November, will be a showcase of works by women artists with an extensive theatre and performance programme, a conference and a Young Curators Academy to discuss constructions of identity, nation and belonging from an intersectional feminist perspective.

Based on Bilgin Ayata's essay "De-heimatize Belonging", in which the political scientist criticizes "Heimat" as a term made irredeemable through the colonial and fascist history of violence in Germany, the 4. Berliner Herbstsalon calls for conceiving of new alliances  beyond simplifications and categorizations.

Free admission allows you to visit the exhibition of the 4. Berliner Herbstsalon at various locations in the city. In addition to the Maxim Gorki Theater and the Palais am Festungsgraben, the Haus der Statistik on Alexanderplatz and the Zeughauskino at the German Historical Museum are part of the Herbstsalon for the first time.

We cordially invite you to develop solidary practices against oppression and exclusion through art, performances, theater performances and the Young Curators Academy's public discourse program, and to challenge the culture of -isms by finding new alliances.

Organised by Shermin Langhoff with Aljoscha Begrich, Çağla İlk, Elena Sinanina, Ong Keng Sen, Erden Kosova, Irina Szodruch, Rebecca Ajnwojner.
