Anlässlich der Ausstellung „1,5 Grad. Verflechtungen von Leben, Kosmos, Technik“, lädt die Kunsthalle Mannheim den Künstler Viron Erol Vert ein, eine für den Skulpturenplatz der Kunsthalle entwickelte Aufenthalts-Skulptur mit dem Titel „QUADRAT_KREIS / ATOME SEELE SINNE“ in Kollaboration mit verschiedensten Gruppen und Mitbürger*innen der Stadtgesellschaft Mannheims zu aktivieren.

Inspiriert von Lukrez’ epikureischem Lehrgedicht „De rerum natura“ (Über die Natur der Dinge), wird die Skulptur an drei Tagen mit Performances, Musik, Lesungen, Workshops bespielt um einen neuen Ort für Begegnungen in und mit der Nachbarschaft und der Bevölkerung der Kunsthalle einzuleiten.

Zur Eröffnung am Mittwoch, 7. Juni, ab 18 Uhr, möchte die Kunsthalle Mannheim die Bürger*innen der Stadt einladen, den Skulpturenplatz neu zu begreifen und den Stadtraum, dessen vielfältige Beziehungen, aber auch Zerwürfnisse und Irritationen zu reflektieren.

Zu diesem Anlass wird es eine Performance des Jugendensembles des EinTanzHauses Mannheim geben, für die akustische Stimulation wird das Musikprojekt Driftmachine (Berlin) sorgen. Im Austausch über die künstlerische Intervention „QUADRAT_KREIS / ATOME SEELE SINNE“, ihre Inspirationsquelle –  das Buch „De Rerum natura“ von Lukrez – und über den Platz an sich soll gemeinsam mit den Bürger*innen und Nachbar*innen über die Zukunft des Ortes nachgedacht werden: Was macht einen zukünftigen öffentlichen Platz in der Stadt aus? Wie kann so ein Raum gestaltet und durch den künstlerischen Blick neu formuliert werden?

„QUADRAT_KREIS / ATOME SEELE SINNE“ ab 15 Uhr Workshop-Station der Kunstvermittlung: Skulptur & Raum
Das Publikum ist eingeladen, jederzeit am Workshop-Tisch Platz zu nehmen. Im Gespräch ergründen wir die Großskulpturen des Platzes, ihre Formen und Raumbezüge und halten unsere Erkenntnisse in zeichnerischen Skizzen und plastischen Knetexperimenten fest.

16:30-17:15 Uhr: Lesung u Lukrez' "De rerum Natura" des Lateinkurs 11. Klasse des Karl Friedrich-Gymnasiums

18:30 Uhr: 5 Sinne-Training mit Birgitt Hel

19:00 Uhr: Vortrag Prof. Dr. Christine Bauhardt: „Begegnung und Kommunikation im öffentlichen Raum - Überlegungen für eine demokratische Stadtöffentlichkeit.

Die Pandemie hat es uns drastisch vor Augen geführt: Die Öffentlichkeit als der Raum spontaner Begegnungen und geplanter Verabredungen, von Zusammentreffen und Anonymität, ist keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Ausgangsverbote haben ganze Gesellschaften in die Sphäre des Privaten verbannt, zwischen vier Wände und in engste Beziehungen gezwängt. Wie froh waren wir, als diese Verbote aufgehoben wurden und wir endlich wieder rausgehen konnten -- zu mehreren Bummeln in der Stadt, Spazierengehen im Freundeskreis, Ausgehen ins Theater, ins Kino, in die Kneipe. Menschen sehen und von anderen gesehen werden! Stadt ist Öffentlichkeit, mit guten und weniger guten Aspekten. Es geht auch um Aushalten und Aushandeln. Davon handelt dieser Vortrag.

On the occasion of the exhibition "1.5 Degrees. Interweaving of Life, Cosmos, Technology", the Kunsthalle Mannheim invites the artist Viron Erol Vert to activate a residence sculpture with the title „SQUARE_CIRCLE / ATOMS SOUL SENSES“, developed for the sculpture square of the Kunsthalle, in collaboration with various groups and fellow citizens of Mannheim's urban society.

Inspired by Lucretius' epicurean poem "De Rerum Natura" (On the Nature of Things), the sculpture will be used for three days with performances, music, readings, workshops to initiate a new place for encounters in and with the neighbourhood and the population of the Kunsthalle.

For the opening on Wednesday, June 7, starting at 6 p.m., the Kunsthalle Mannheim would like to invite the citizens of the city to reconceive the sculpture square and to reflect on the urban space, its diverse relationships, but also discord and irritation.

For this occasion, there will be a performance by the youth ensemble of the EinTanzHaus Mannheim, and the acoustic stimulation will be provided by the music project Driftmachine (Berlin). In an exchange about the artistic intervention „QUADRAT_KREIS / ATOME SEELE SINNE“, its source of inspiration - the book "De rerum natura" by Lucretius - and about the square itself, the future of the place will be considered together with citizens and neighbours: What makes a future public square in the city? How can such a space be designed and reformulated through the artistic gaze

„QUADRAT_CIRCLE / ATOMES SOULS SENSES“ from 3 p.m.: Workshop station of the art education: Sculpture & Space. The public is invited to take a seat at the workshop table at any time. In conversation, we explore the large sculptures of the square, their forms and spatial references, and record our findings in drawing sketches and plastic clay experiments.

4:30-5:15 p.m.: Reading u Lucretius' "De rerum Natura" by the 11th grade Latin class of Karl Friedrich-Gymnasium.

6:30 p.m.: 5 senses training with Birgitt Hel

7:00 p.m.: Lecture by Prof. Dr. Christine Bauhardt: "Encounter and communication in public space - considerations for a democratic urban public sphere.

The pandemic has made it drastically clear to us: The public sphere as the space of spontaneous encounters and planned appointments, of meetings and anonymity, cannot be taken for granted. Bans on going out have banished entire societies to the sphere of the private, squeezed between four walls and into the closest of relationships. How happy we were when these bans were lifted and we could finally go out again -- for several strolls in the city, walks with friends, out to the theater, to the movies, to the pub. Seeing people and being seen by others! City is public, with good and not so good aspects. It is also about enduring and negotiating. This is what this lecture is about.
